CBD Benefits for Sport

Every year in September WADA draws up a list of substances prohibited to sportsmen which will come into force from the following year.

From 1 January 2018 cannabidiol is no longer a doping substance in the world of sport.

Decision supported by the numerous data provided by science that confirm the beneficial effects of CBD especially in the event of injury and after high-impact sports activities. Sports with a high level of stress for our body include ultramarathons, contact sports such as motorsports, wrestling, boxing or American football.

But What Are These Beneficial Effects of CBD?

Anti-Inflammatory and Analgesic Effect

Anti-Inflammatory and Analgesic Effect properties of CBD flower are already known, which is why it is indicated to speed up the recovery phase after any sporting activity. Due to its regenerating and relaxing effects it is recommended for people suffering from chronic pain or inflammation. For example, there are many cases of use among American football players, a sport with a high level of physical stress, and which over time has serious consequences on the health of athletes.

Physical Recovery Through CBD

CBD is indicated for the post-sport muscle recovery phase, especially in those moments when fatigue is greater. At the end of the sporting activity it is in fact essential to prevent the concentration of lactic acid by relaxing the muscles. So this molecule, extracted from CBD flower, could intervene on the recovery of the organism through the action on the receptors of our endocannabinoid system.

Balance of Sleep

It is good to know that there is a very strong link between sleep and sport. Sport helps sleep and sleep helps athletes. During sleep, the muscle fibers of the injured muscles are repaired thanks to growth hormone. During REM sleep, the body slows down, restores organs, builds bones, and produces immune cells.

Relaxation of the Mind

CBD hemp flower helps relieve generalized anxiety states, as does sports. Together they could give us mental as well as important physical benefits. But it is also true that the sport practiced in the wrong way can cause anxiety and stress for both our mind and our body. It may happen that a sporting activity, such as a competition, is a cause for anxiety for us, caused by the pressure of competition or expectations. This would prevent us from having this experience in a positive way, and CBD can help us here!

Running on CBD

Ever felt like cannabis was helping you run better but the high was too much? The problem is solved with CBD!

With widespread legalization in the United States and some other countries around the world, CBD hemp has become a companion for various activities. It is often thought that these only include something relaxing like movies or music, but marijuana is playing a significant role in sport, both recreationally and professionally. Today we talk to all the runners who read us: whether you run just to stay fit or to prepare for the next marathon, know that cannabis might interest you.

Both the “runner’s high” and the psychoactive effect of cannabis have been found to be triggered by our endocannabinoid system. Exercising for long periods causes the body to naturally produce the endocannabinoid anandamide. This is the chemical compound that makes us feel focused and fully immersed in an activity. This is the reason many runners and athletes tend to use cannabis. Instead of waiting for your body to naturally produce anandamide, why not start sports right from the start?

Look Specifically for CBD

CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid. This means it doesn’t give you the traditional cannabis effect. For this reason, cannabidiol is mostly legal around the world, and numerous people use it for different reasons. But what’s important to note is how this cannabinoid interacts with anandamide.

Unlike THC, CBD does not bind to CB1 or CB2 receptors, but inhibits fatty acid hydroxylase, the enzyme responsible for the reabsorption of anandamide. By reducing the effect of the compound destroying the thing you want, the consequence is that you will feel good. This is what increases the “runner’s high”.

CBD has also been shown to mediate pain perception, inflammation and body temperature, all of which affect performance during a run.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has officially removed CBD from the 2018 list of prohibited substances.
